In 2011 onedotzero teamed up with the Red Gallery to host the fourth annual onedotzero_cascade. Over 40 of the most promising UK and international graduates participated in the five-day workshop from 24–28 October. The graduates were introduced to some of onedotzeroʼs most innovative partners, creators and featured artists from the annual onedotzero_adventures in motion festival. The graduates came from 16 creative disciplines and worked in small multi-disciplinary teams to tackle a brief set by onedotzero’s Shane Walter.
cascade graduates presented the outcomes of the sessions as part of a Symposium at the 2011 onedotzero_adventures in motion at the BFI Southbank. Two of the groups were awarded a fund from Ideastap to go towards the development and creation of their ideas. The jury included Lbi, Allofus, YCC, Kin, Mother, and Ogilvy Labs.
The cascade_2011 symposium focused on equipping young creatives with the tools to make it into the industry; examining alternative paths to those of education or agency life and highlighting networking as a key offering.
Beginning with a Keynote presentation by Wayne Hemingway (co-founder of Red or Dead), the program included: James Hilton (AKQA), Will Hudson (It’s Nice That), Kevin Palmer + Matt Wade (Kin), Sam Payne (Mother), Jonathan Richards (Guardian Digital) and event chair Lynda Relph-Knight, former Design Week editor.
